Unofficial kick-off to the summer!

Unofficial kick-off to the summer!

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kick-off to the summer season. In all of the excitement it can be easy to forget the reason for Monday's Holiday, a rather solemn day to remember the US military who died while serving our country. While we are all dusting off the fishing gear and getting the boat ready, we can be humbled by the fact that so many have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country. It is their sacrifices that allow the rest of us to be able to continue these time-honored traditions of getting ready for another season here on Cape Cod. And for that we are eternally grateful.

With that said, there is a lot of good fishing to look forward to!

On the Southside, folks are enjoying the Tautog bite at Colliers and Bishops in Nantucket Sound. Green crabs and clams have both been working well in 20-30' of water.

The black sea bass bite opened last weekend and was slow to start. Folks who targeted deeper water with larger diamond jigs in the Sound were rewarded with keeper size blue heads.

Folks in the boats on the South side have been finding some really nice large scup...dinner plate sized!

The Striped Bass have been picking up. If you have timed the tide and the location well then you have likely been hooking into some 30" and 40" fish inside the South Side bays, harbors and estuaries. These larger fish have been taken on top water plugs, swim baits, soft plastics and live eels.

We heard about some really nice bass blitzes in the Canal. All larger fish. We talked with several different anglers who caught their first fish of the season on their first cast, and they were all over 40". Here is Ryan with one of the beautiful stripers he caught.

Larger bluefish have started to appear on some of the beaches in Nantucket Sound. South Cape Beach has been a good shore spot. Metals like the Hopkins and Kastmaster have worked well.

On the Northside, the winter flounder bite has been super. Boaters are fishing 30'+ of water leaving out of Barnstable and Sesuit harbors. They are tipping flounder rigs with sea worms and limiting out.

The Stripers have been finicky in Barnstable harbor. The night bite proves to be more productive.

We will be at the shop this weekend Sat/Sun 8:30a-5:30p and Monday from 8:30a-4p. Looking forward to seeing lots of folks for the first time this season!
