Cape Cod Fishing report May 7, 2026
Christian reports that on the freshwater front trout are falling prey to metal spoons, like the Thomas Rough Rider. The bass are getting hooked on wacky rigged Berkley Power Worms as well as nightcrawlers.
On the saltwater side, everyone is excited about the number of Striped Bass showing up in our local waters. Also, noteworthy is that some larger bass - 20 pound class - are also in the mix. Lots of anglers have done very well with top water lures. Lots of different topwater lures have worked, but many have been reporting great luck with the Game On Lures, X-Walk.
The tautog bite continues to be strong in the rock piles in Nantucket Sound. Green crabs and clams have both been successful.
The squid bite is also fantastic. It has been better at night, but some are saying it has been worthwhile trying the day bite as well. The squid have also come inside the harbors, so a boat is not required!
There have been rumors of bluefish from Falmouth to Hyannis.
